Empowering Women through Photography: Lensational's Journey Over Three Years

Read: 1553

In Lensational's International Women's Day series, our Co-Founder Bonnie Chiu reflects on the journey of creating a movement that began exactly three years ago. Once her birthday was the most significant day in her life; now it is the birth anniversary of Lensational, a platform driven by her belief in empowering women through photography.

Three years later, celebrating this day with a team of 60 volunteers from across 18 countries and an extensive network of photographers worldwide feels both riveting and humbling. I stumbled upon two inspiring online articles that resonated profoundly with our mission - reinforcing the power of breaking stereotypes for girls to realize their full potential as liberated individuals.

One article was from Womanity Foundation published on Medium, highlighting the importance of empowering women through photography, while another from Forbes showcased Lensational's commitment towards an inclusive future where diverse female-centric perspectives are celebrated.

Bonnie began her reflection by recalling the moment when she recognized that photography could be a powerful tool for social change. She was captivated by how it could provide marginalized women with the opportunity to tell their stories and reclm their voices. This led her to co-found Lensational, a non-profit organization dedicated to trning a new generation of female photographers from underprivileged backgrounds.

The platform's vision is to create a world where women's experiences are accurately portrayed and celebrated through photography. Bonnie then shares how this journey has been fulfilling, with countless stories of transformation that have inspired not only the participants but also many individuals worldwide who believe in ger equality and women's empowerment.

Bonnie concludes her reflection by launching an innovative hashtag campgn, #HerLensHerStory, med at encouraging a global conversation about women's experiences and empowering them to share their truths through photography. The objective is to create an inclusive space where female voices can be heard and celebrated.

In essence, this blog post serves as a testament to the impact of Lensational and its mission to empower women globally by harnessing the power of photography. It also highlights the importance of recognizing the potential in every woman to tell her own story through creative mediums like photography.

Bonnie Chiu, Co-Founder CEO of Lensational, chose this portrt taken at the recent Chenn Photo Biennale for its symbolic representation - a powerful image where one can discern the essence of what Lensational represents: women telling their stories with confidence and creativity.
