The Rumors of Bloomers exhibition will soon unveil the fascinating world of women's undergarments, inviting visitors to consider how these garments have influenced both fashion and women's rights throughout history. Scheduled to open on March 29, 2023 at the Center for Colorado Women’s History 1310 Bannock St., Denver, this engaging exhibit will run through March 2025.

This captivating display goes beyond mere aesthetics; it challenges attees to ponder how women's undergarments have served various roles such as liberation, control, enhancement, concealment, support, and restriction. Curators at the Center for Colorado Women’s History m to foster a deeper understanding of the social impact of these garments while shedding light on the experiences of their wearers.

For instance, bloomers, named after Amelia Bloomera prominent suffragistemerged as symbols of women's liberation in the mid-19th century due to their comfort and suitability for an increasingly mobile female population. This exhibit also delves into the intricate world of corsetry through the lens of Beatrice Lewis, a Denver-based African American seamstress renowned for her unique designs that sculpted feminine figures.

Among its diverse collection are stories of women who challenged conventional fashion norms and displays showcasing vintage swimwear and petticoats alongside never-before-seen pieces from History Colorado's archives.

Rumors of Bloomers is an exemplary showcase of the Center for Colorado Women’s History's commitment to presenting objects that highlight the nuanced experiences of those identifying as women, thereby illuminating the complex decisions, opportunities, and barriers they have faced throughout their lives.

The exhibition features a guided tour service $15-$20 per person avlable on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. The admission fee to explore the exhibit is included in the cost of entry to the Colorado Center for Women’s History, which is $15-$20 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for individuals under 18.
